The course we follow is Level 3 BTEC in Travel and Tourism. The course is graded Dist* (A* at A-Level), Dist (A), Merit (C), and Pass (E). ● Over the two years there are two exams. The Year 12 exam is on The World of T&T (the theory behind the practice) for 25% of the mark. It is taken in June of Year 12. The Year 13 exam is taken in January and looks at Global Destinations. ● Two units are coursework, allowing students to show their ability and care on the other side of the work. In Year 12 we do Visitor Attractions & will need to visit London to make some assessments of our capital’s attractions. In Y13, we make a Marketing Plan, based on the Principles of Marketing in the scenario of setting up a local Travel Agency. ● A course which will help you plan your holidays for life ● No previous knowledge of T&T is needed. ● An interest in the world in general is needed as many events have a huge effect on the T&T industry and similarly, the T&T industry can help any world economy maintain stability. ● There are some practical assessments throughout the course, eg Role plays & sketches on improvements to Customer Service ● There are various resources: textbooks, guidebooks, trade magazines, touring books; internet. ● Class sizes can vary – 3 years ago there were 18, 2 years ago year 15, last year 12, and this year 5. ● You will be expected to complete an hour’s work for every hour spent in the classroom. ● T&T works well with any other subject as it can be used for a future career or just your future life.
Minimum Grade 4 in English and Maths
The course is 50% coursework and 50% exams. The exams can each be retaken once and the best mark counts. The coursework is internally marked within the school, and externally moderated.
