Art and Design (Photography)
Course summary
In the first year, students will focus on learning and developing the skills required for this subject. You will gain camera, lighting, and editing skills. You will participate in a series of workshops, learn how to generate ideas, and work experimentally and analytically. You will explore approaches to portraiture, location, still life, and experimental photography. Students will also have the opportunity to work with film and make prints in our darkroom. You will then apply these skills in an increasingly independent approach, culminating in a personal investigation. Students will complete two units of work in total which will be internally assessed and externally moderated. There are a range of extracurricular activities and events. These include gallery visits, visiting speakers, and location shoots. Students are encouraged to enter national competitions and exhibit their work. Students can undertake roles of responsibility as subject ambassadors or as a members of the art department collective.
