Course summary
A level German offers students a rich and comprehensive insight into the social, political, intellectual and artistic culture of the countries and communities where German is spoken. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding through speaking, listening, reading and writing in German. The study of literature and film will allow students to analyse language structures and increase their cultural and grammatical awareness. The course has a very strong focus on building students’ confidence and fluency in spoken and written German. Students will develop a range of other skills including independent research and critical and analytical thinking skills. There are four themes, one of which is the historical study of the making of modern Germany: 1989 onwards. This will include significant events which have helped shape the country.
