Fine Art gives students the opportunity to both express themselves through the creative process and gain a greater understanding of the world around them. Fine Art helps students develop problem solving skills and encourages them to delve deeper into world issues whilst acquiring a firmer understanding of both traditional and modern approaches to making artwork. Students who choose Fine Art at A Level will be introduced to a range of materials, processes and techniques including drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking and photography amongst others. Students will learn the importance of both contextual and artist research and will develop a greater understanding of how the world shapes the art that we engage with.
We ask that all students achieve grade 4 or equivalent (a Level 2 pass) in at least 4 subjects, alongside the following subject specific entry requirements: • Grade 5 in GCSE Art Grade 4 in GCSE English.
A Level Fine Art comprises of a coursework unit (portfolio) worth 60 % and a practical examination unit set by the exam board worth 40%
