Course summary

Biology is the study of living things; how they function, how they evolved and how they interact. There is a strong practical element involving both lab and field work and students will develop their scientific investigation skills throughout the course, earning their practical endorsement. The course is divided into the following topics: • Biological molecules • Cells • Transport across membranes • Cell recognition and the immune system • Organisms and the environment • Genetic variation, information and relationships • Energy transfer • Responding to changes in the environment • Populations, evolution and ecosystems • The control of gene expression

Entry requirements

GCSE Biology grade 6 (or combined science 66) and GCSE Mathematics grade 5 on Higher Paper.
