Art and Design (Textiles)

Course summary

This course will suit you if you have an interest in textiles and fashion and want to explore decorative and wearable design, want to develop your understanding of design skills and making processes, enjoy experimenting with artistic techniques and processes in a very practical way and are interested in gaining an appreciation of the work of existing artists and designers. Textiles will nurture your creativity through focusing on the development of your design and craft skills. You'll work with a range of materials and you will have the opportunity to explore decorative and wearable items. The course is for those who want to learn how to work through a process of research, design and production which will result in individual and original pieces of work. Whilst you study, you'll examine a variety of artist and designer work to inspire your own pieces. Using these methods you will build up a portfolio of practical work that is exciting, inventive and individual. There are two components to your A level, a personal investigation and an externally set assignment. Sketch books are vital to each of the components as you will need to fully support the exciting and expressive work you produce.
