Course summary

This course will suit you if you have a creative eye, are interested in experimenting and exploring new techniques in photography, are interested in learning a variety of photography techniques using a Digital SLR to create innovative photographs. A Level Photography explores the creative, technical and theoretical elements of Photography. You will be supported on a range of traditional and digital routes, gaining an understanding of both traditional and contemporary practice and what makes photography successful in visual terms. You will be given the opportunity to appreciate the work of other artists, photographers and designers and get involved with photographic styling and learn to manipulate images using computers within project work. There are photo shoot opportunities. In addition to developing technical and creative elements you will have the opportunity to step back in time and learn about darkroom photography. You will have the opportunity to not only produce your own film and photograms, but learn how to develop your photographs using the developer, stop and fixer in the darkroom. Traditional wet-based photographic darkroom practice continues to be used in some areas of professional photography. Although digital processing in now more common, traditional wet-based darkroom practice is particularly used for black and white exhibition printing and fine art photography.

Entry requirements

- 5 GCSEs at grade 5 and above this must include GCSE Maths and GCSE English (Language or Literature)
