This qualification is for learners 16 years old or over who prefer to study IT in a context that allows them to learn and be assessed in ways that are practical and relevant to the IT sector. This qualification is not just about being able to use computers. Employers have told us that they need people who are able to help them develop their systems or the systems for their customers, use IT as a tool to analyse data and develop applications. Therefore, this qualification is designed to give learners a range of specialist knowledge and transferable skills in the context of applied IT, providing them with the opportunity to enter an apprenticeship, move directly into employment, or progress to a related Higher Education (HE) course.
There is no formal requirement for entry, an interest in IT is all you need.
Unit 1 & 2 are Externally Assessed Examinations. Unit 1 Exam will be taken in the January of Year 12 - with a retake possible in May Unit 2 Exam will be taken in the May of Year 12 - with a retake possible in January of Year 13 Unit 6, 9 & 21 are internally assessed and externally moderated coursework assignments. Unit 6 is submitted in January of Year 13 and the other 2 units are submitted May or Year 13. The course is graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*
