Course summary

Over the two-year A Level Geography course, you will study six different topics – three focused on Human Geography and three on Physical Geography. These topics include typical geographical units such as Coasts, Cities, and Natural Hazards, and less typical units like Changing Places and Global Governance. Alongside this, you will complete a coursework piece based on your own interests and also complete fieldwork in various geographical settings. As part of the course, you'll also have the opportunity to take part in an exciting and ever-changing range of trips, ranging from local coastlines to far-flung World Cities. A Level Geography is a course that equips you to be a citizen of the world and gives you an awareness of the greatest challenges our world faces.

Entry requirements

The most important entry requirement is that you are committed and determined to do well. You need to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with at least 2 at Grade 5. These must include Maths and English. To study this particular A Level, you need to achieve Grade 5 in GCSE English Language, Maths, and Geography (if studied).

How you'll be assessed

80% of your grade comes from two end-of-course exams, one on the Physical Geography units and one on the Human units. 20% comes from the coursework. The exams vary from multiple choice questions to short-essay questions and are designed not only to test your understanding of each unit but also how they cross over with one another.
