Biology is the fascinating, practical study of life that will allow you to explore the complexity of living organisms from the anatomical structure of the kidney, liver and brain to the advances in genetic engineering, control of disease and the biochemistry behind biological molecules. This highly practical course will allow you to build on your GCSE studies of both science and mathematics to further develop your investigative, analytical and evaluative skills and solve problems in a range of contexts.
• The minimum entry criteria for our Level 3 Pathways is at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or equivalent • A-Level Pathway must include mathematics or English • Science Grade 6, Mathematics Grade 6
Biology A-Level is a fully linear course so assessment of knowledge and understanding of the whole course takes place at the end of two years of study. There will be a total of three exams totalling six hours of examinations and a minimum series of 12 practical sessions that must be covered and evidenced in lab books to gain the practical endorsement that sits alongside the A-Level. You will have the chance to work with lots of new laboratory equipment including; water baths, colorimeters, incubators, dissection kits and field study apparatus to strengthen a range of different practical skills.
