English Language and Literature
Course summary
This course will suit you if you are creative in developing your writing skills, interested in discussing and debating issues and theories about language; interested in the sociological elements of language. Across the two years you will be expected to acquire the skills and terminology to analyse texts whilst considering the impact context has on them. The study of English Language and Literature requires the individual to have a strong interest in the way in which English is used in society, in formal and informal, and planned and unplanned occasions. In addition you will gain knowledge and understanding of the core areas of linguistic study : semantics, lexis, grammar, pragmatics, syntax and phonology.
