This qualification will form part of a suite of A level subjects selected by you and provides an opportunity to focus specifically on the technology used to create music and facilitate the production of music products. This course will provide a background in all areas of music technology – music sequencing, sound recording, acoustics and composition. It is suitable for budding producers, composers, musicians or studio, broadcast and live sound engineers who utilise music technology. You will gain knowledge in music and technical skills as well as have the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of people. During year 1 of the course you will focus on DAW production and studio recording techniques. These skills will prepare you for progression to year 2 and areas of study that could include music and sound for media, Creative Synthesis and Sampling, remixing and reworking, commercial music production and Working and Developing as a Production Team
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above. GCSE Music (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential. Given the practical and technical demands of this course your entry will be subject to an interview.
There is an externally set/assessed project on the first year of this qualification.
