The course focuses on the study of society and allows students to acquire knowledge and a critical understanding of contemporary social structures and processes. They will reflect on their own social experience and see the connections between the nature of sociological thought and methods of sociological enquiry. Why are women less likely to commit a crime? Does the TV news tell us the truth? Why do religious cults exist? How does a home background affect performance at school? These are just some of the key questions covered at A Level Sociology. Students will study both individuals and groups in society and the various factors that affect human relationships throughout the course.
5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above. In addition, grade 6 in English and grade 5 in Mathematics, with a grade 4 in Science at GCSE.
The assessment is by three essay based written examinations.
