Course summary

A Level Mathematics provides students with a thorough grounding in the mathematical tools and techniques often needed in the workplace. The logic and reasoning skills developed by studying A Level Mathematics ensure the qualification is widely respected even in non-mathematical arenas. Year 12 Core Mathematics: Algebra, Quadratics, Equations and Inequalities, Graphs and Transformations, Straight Line Graphs, Circles, Binomial Expansion, Trigonometry, Vectors, Differentiation, Integration, Exponentials and Logarithms. Year 13 Core Mathematics: Further Algebra, Functions and Graphs, Sequences and Series, Further Binomials, Radians, Further Trigonometry, Parametric Equations, Further Differentiation, Numerical Methods, Further Integration and Further Vectors. Mechanics: Mathematical modelling, Constant Acceleration, Forces and Motion, Variable Acceleration, Moments, Forces and Friction, Projectiles, Applications of Forces, Further Kinematics. Statistics: Data Collection, Measures of Location and Spread, Representations of Data, Correlation, Probability, Statistical Distributions, Hypothesis Testing, Regression, Conditional Probability, Normal Distribution.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above, including grade 6 at GCSE Mathematics.

How you'll be assessed

Assessment is by an examination at the end of the two years.
