The course will equip students who enjoyed Chemistry at GCSE with the further knowledge and skills required to progress into higher education. How the course is taught? The course is taught over two years using a variety of teaching methods which include group discussions, research tasks and practical activities. What areas are covered by the course? l Physical Chemistry: The Structure of an Atom, Amount of substance, Energetics, Equilibiria, Bonding and Kinetics. l Inorganic Chemistry: The Halogens and Transition Metals. l Organic Chemistry: Introduction to Organic Chemistry, Halogenoalkanes, Alkenes and Alcohols.
Five GCSEs at Grade 6/7 or above including two in GCSE Science. Students should have GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/5 or above.
Students complete the AS Level course in Year 1. This consists of two exams including a range of short and extended answer questions and multiple choice questions. Students then continue onto the A-Level course in Year 2, which consists of three exams, including one synoptic paper based on the entire content of the course.
