
This course combines the best elements of both English Literature and English Language so if you enjoy exploring writers’ techniques across a range of contexts then this course is for you. You will also need to have a passion for the study of literature and be a keen reader as well as enjoy participating in lively discussions and debate! Methods of literary and language analysis underpin each aspect of the course. As such, we study the following texts in depth with either a focus on concepts of voice or as part of an in depth thematic study of Society and the Individual: Voices Anthology, A Streetcar Named Desire, Othello and The Great Gatsby.
- In addition to the general entry requirements, you will need at least a Grade 6 in English Language and Literature. General Entry Requirements - 5 GCSE passes at Grades 9-5 - At least Grade 4 in Mathematics - At least Grade 5 in English Language and English Literature
You will be assessed through a combination of coursework and exam work comprising two exam papers and a portfolio of coursework. For the Non-Examined Assessment, you will be asked to write a piece of fiction and a piece of creative non-fiction on a theme of your choosing and offer a commentary on your choices.
