The A-level Theology course involves a rigorous study of Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics and how these relate to the world in which we live and their impact on local and global issues. Students consider the deepest questions humans can ask. For example, why am I here? Why do people suffer? Why should I be good? The course enables students to develop an enquiring, critical, and reflective approach to the study of theology. Students will critically evaluate and justify points of view through the use of evidence and reasoned argument. Theology develops skills transferable to a variety of careers including: • Police • Journalism • Social work • Legal profession • Medical profession • Teaching • Counselling • Development / Charity work • Youth work • Local government roles • The Armed Forces
Six GCSEs at grade 4 (must include both English Language and Maths). GCSE grade 5 in English or History.
Learners will study three components: Component 1: A Study of Religion (Christianity) Component 2: Philosophy of Religion Component 3: Religion and Ethics Each component is assessed by written examination. Five questions are set per component, of which candidates must answer two in essay format.
