This course offers a specialist qualification that focuses on aspects of employment within an IT vocational sector. The qualification covers both theory about IT and its place in society and practical elements for IT in industry. The course prepares learners for the constantly evolving digital sector, ensuring students have the knowledge and skills they need to work in the ever-changing world of Information Technology. Assessment is through a combination of external examination, controlled assessment, and coursework. To enhance your experience on the course, we have made links and visited several IT leading businesses and have ex-students who have gained apprenticeships with these organizations visiting the College, including UKFast, Barclays, AstraZeneca, and Thales to name a few. Completing this course alongside other chosen Level 3 courses can open up opportunities to study IT/Computing-related degrees at various universities. The degrees on offer range from creative IT such as BSc (Hons) Computer Games Technology degree to more technical-related degrees such as BSc (Hons) Computer and Network Security. It can also contribute towards the points/grades required to attend university to study other degree courses. It can also offer placements in the IT profession both Technical and Design based IT related professions. A number of our students have achieved places in organizations such as Barclays Bank, Fujitsu, Thalies UKFast, and many more.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 (to include English Language). Grade 4 in Maths.
Year 2: Extended Certificate (above plus) Unit 1 – Information Technology System You will learn how computer hardware, digital devices, and relevant software combine to form small- and large-scale systems. You will develop an understanding of how Information Technology systems can be used in vocational contexts to solve problems and/or meet the needs of organizations and users. You will be able to analyze the impact of IT systems, evaluate the effectiveness of systems in a range of contexts, and, where appropriate, suggest and plan improvements to current solutions. This will be an assessed external examination (2 hours). Unit 6 – Website Development This practical-based unit allows you to understand the principles of designing and creating a functional website and focuses on the design and development of a website to meet the requirements of a client. You will be encouraged to seek out real-life situations where a website is required. You will explore the specific requirements of the client and begin to design and develop a website for that business. This is an assessed piece of coursework.
