Course summary

Linguistic competence is increasingly valued, both in higher education and in the job market, where there are fewer unemployed language graduates and quite often higher paid ones compared to some other disciplines! In the future, as you compete for jobs on a European or global level, your knowledge of another language and culture will really make you more employable. Students who have studied language at A Level go on to have careers in a variety of sectors including business and marketing, travel and tourism, law, journalism, fashion, the civil service, work in the foreign office or secret service, interpreting or translating, banking and education. WHAT WILL I LEARN? You will learn to communicate and debate views about current affairs, politics, and socio-economic issues in the medium of your chosen language. Also, you will learn much about culture and the arts in the French or Spanish speaking regions of the world. In Year 13, you will also conduct your own research on an element that interests you! HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT? Languages are taught interactively so you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills through a wide variety of different mediums such as video, TV, Internet research and music. As well as topic-based lessons, you will have the opportunity to perfect the mechanics of the language and improve your production skills. You will do this in five one-hour lessons and support lessons.
