Course summary

This work-related programme will cover the basic knowledge and technical skills that you will need to progress to a more advanced course or to gain employment within the animal care industry. These skills include animal behaviour, welfare and handling. You will also undertake work experience, which will be assessed as part of your programme.

Entry requirements

New Students: GCSE 3/4 grade profile in maths and English as well as GCSE Science grade 3*. Progressing Students: For those progressing from the Level One in Land based Studies - Individual has achieved at least a Pass, and ideally a Merit or Distinction, in their Level One in Land based [Animal Care] and has a satisfactory reference from their current Course Lead in relation to their studies, timely completion of coursework, good standards of behaviour, attendance of at least 87% in all of their study programme including maths and English. For those progressing from the Animal Studies Progression Diploma - Individual will be required to have achieved at least a Merit in their Term One units and at least a ‘Merit’ in the L2 Extended Certificate in Animal Care. *The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

How you'll be assessed

Units are assessed using a mix of controlled assessments, project tasks, and a synoptic exam at the end of your course. All three of these elements need to be graded at a minimum of Pass for you to successfully complete the course. All students must also complete a period of work experience to fulfill the requirements of City and Guilds.
