This course is designed to give you a detailed understanding of aspects of science with an emphasis on the skills and knowledge used in many fields of science including forensic, medical, chemical, and biological sciences. You will study a range of core scientific and specialist units that will develop your scientific understanding. You will develop your practical skills through a series of assignments and challenging investigations that utilize techniques used by scientists in the industry. These include microscopy, spectroscopy, genetic analysis, and chemical and biological testing. The course also covers aspects of medical science including applications of physics, physiological investigations, and diseases and infections. Various careers are possible including hospital and research laboratories, school or college laboratories, forensic laboratory work, and scenes of crime work. The course can also lead to various science-based courses at higher education including Chemical and Biological Sciences, Criminology and Forensic Science, Biomedical Science, Radiography, Food and Nutrition, and Pharmaceutical Science
You need to achieve a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English (Language or Literature) and / or Maths and a 5 in at least one Science GCSE.
