Course summary

What will we study? In component 1 students will study the characteristics of contemporary processors, input, output an storage devices, software and software development, exchanging data, data types, data structures and algorithms. Students will also cover the legal, moral, cultural and ethical issues surrounding computing. Component 1 is worth 40% of the overall grade. In component 2 students will study the elements of computational thinking, problem solving and programming. Students will also learn to write and read algorithms to solve problems. Component 2 is worth 40% of the overall grade. Students will also carry out a programming project which is worth 20% of their final grade. Students must analysis the problem, design the solution, develop the solution and evaluate their final version to meet the client needs.
