Within five themes: identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation, and sharing the planet, there is a broad range of topics, and the course will be built upon the group’s particular interests in various aspects of language or culture that best helps you. These themes will allow you to compare French language and culture with your own, and they will also provide you with opportunities to make connections to other IB subjects. You will achieve a high level of fluency allowing you to interact confidently with a native speaker about your culture, but their own as well. You will become grammar experts and if you’re taking the higher course, you will cover two literary works that will exemplify some aspects of the themes. This will allow you to progress from comprehension to interpretation and inference, as well as develop your international-mindedness.
No previous knowledge – but a grade 6 or 7 in a European Language is an advantage
You will be assessed on your ability to produce and understand French through four components. 50% of the assessment will be based on productive skills (writing and speaking) and the other 50% will be based on receptive skills (reading and listening).
