Course summary

Most students at IB haven’t studied economics before. You might have an interest in economics and want to know more about the impact of government policies on the world around you. You might want to investigate some of the stories you hear in the news – Why do some economies grow and others don’t? What will trade be like after Brexit? Will there be another global financial crisis? This course will help you to understand all this and more.

Entry requirements

GCSE English Language grade 7 or above and GCSE Mathematics grade 6 or above.

How you'll be assessed

Studying economics will help you develop transferable skills that will prepare you for studying at university or moving into the world of work. These include skills in data interpretation and essay writing. Although regular weekly assignments are set throughout the course, dedicated students must be keen to supplement specific class and homework activities with individual research and investigation from books, journals, newspapers, computer based resources and television reports. A lively interest in current affairs is essential. There are 2 exam papers at standard and 3 at higher making 80%, and a 20% portfolio of 3 commentaries on recent news articles
