A 3-Dimensional perspective of art. A Level 3D Design is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to explore materials and create three dimensional work using a broad range of materials and techniques. Students who enjoy and successfully complete this subject typically progress onto art and design related degrees. If you are interested in design, have imagination and want to give your ideas the chance to flourish in a great environment, with expert support and with a wide range of materials at your disposal, then 3D Design is the subject for you!
A minimum of 5x Grade 5s including Art & Design OR Graphic Products / Resistant Materials OR portfolio of work is required.
The course is currently assessed by an internal unit of coursework which counts for 60% and an external exam which counts for 40%. To support and develop our students’ subject knowledge, they have visited cities such as Liverpool and Manchester to view galleries and architecture, as well as visiting the Great Northern contemporary craft fair and the Grand Designs exhibition in Birmingham. There are a number of specialist fields that our students explore, and these include Architecture, Sculpture, Product Design, Furniture, Lighting Design, Ceramics, and Jewellery. Whatever the specialism, students receive all the support they need in our industry standard workshops and during their study periods have access to supported ‘Drop-In’ workshops once fully trained on all machinery.
