This course is designed for learners who wish to pursue a vocationally relevant qualification in the music sector. This sector is a dynamic area of the performing arts and many of its skills are transferable between the different areas of the larger genre. How the course is taught? The course is taught through practical workshops based on performance and music technology skills or through tutorial-style lessons. Students are given opportunities to participate in local competitions and support for personal projects. There is one-to-one support for practical work and written projects. You will have opportunities for planning and staging music events of your choice, developing music production techniques such as recording, editing and mixing and performing in different-sized venues. What areas are covered by the course? The course looks at Pop Music In Practice, Aural Perception Skills, Music Performance Techniques, Working and Developing as a Musical Ensemble, Musical Theatre Performance, Music Production Skills, and the Sound and Music Industry. Students will also undertake Special Subject Investigation.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (including English and Maths) is desirable. A GCSE or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music is desirable, alongside the ability to sing or play an instrument.
The course is assessed through a combination of internally and externally assessed units.
