Course summary
There is currently a shortage of employees with good mathematical skills and therefore many opportunities for those who achieve in this subject. All employers look for skills in problem solving, analysis, data handling and communication, to name just a few – all of which are transferable skills gained from this course. How the course is taught? There are five hours of direct teaching a week but all students are also expected to study independently. What areas are covered by the course? Pure Maths: Indices and Surds, Coordinate Geometry, Differentiation, Integration, Inequalities, Quadratics, Mathematical Modelling, Proof, Graphs and Transformations, Equations of a Circle, Trigonometry, Sequences and Series, Exponentials and Logarithms, Functions, Numerical Methods, Partial Fractions, Parametrics and Vectors. Statistics: Statistical Sampling, Data Presentation and interpretation, Probability, Binomial and Normal Distributions, Hypothesis Testing. Mechanics: Quantities and Units in SI System, Kinematics, Forces and Newton’s Laws, Moments.
