This course is designed to provide students with a broad overview of the media sector and a high level of specialist skills and knowledge that would be relevant to a career in the diverse and dynamic media industries or a course of further study. How the course is taught? The course is delivered using a combination of theoretical and practical lessons, with students using theory to demonstrate their understanding in set assignments. You will develop practical media skills working with professional print and editing equipment and software to develop your own media products. What areas are covered by the course? • Media Representations • Pre-production Portfolio • Responding to a Commission • Digital Magazine Production • Factual/Fictional Film Production • Media Campaigns
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (including English and Maths) is desirable; plus a BTEC Level 2 in Creative Media or a GCSE Grade 4/5 or above in Art, Photography, or other creative subject. Students who do not meet the entry requirements should arrange an appointment with the Head of Department.
Students will complete six units, four internally assessed coursework units and two external examinations studied over two years.
