Study Skills
Course summary
The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a Level 3 course that is taken alongside A-levels. You’ll be required to complete a project based on a research topic of your choice. You will choose an area of interest, draft a title and aims of the project for formal approval, plan, research, and carry out the project, deliver a presentation to a non-specialist audience, and provide evidence of all stages of project development and production for assessment. You will have several taught sessions, focusing on how to choose and plan your project, reading and research skills, how to evaluate sources, and how to use citations. An EPQ will help you develop a useful range of extra study skills, helping you prepare for the demands of university work. It is valued amongst higher education institutions as it demonstrates your dedication to independent learning. It contributes towards entry requirements: at some universities, the EPQ is worth a maximum of 70 UCAS points, which is slightly more than an AS-level (60 points).
