There are two components: Component 1 September Year 12 -January Year 13Workshops teaching a variety of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional skills and techniques. An individual visual investigation leading to 1 or more outcomes and informed by different Artists, designers, cultures or genres. A piece of extended writing between 1000-3000 words which follows a line of enquiry and links to the practical assignment. Gallery visit.60% of qualification. Component 2 February –May of Year 13A response to a question chosen from an AQA exam paper released on 1stFebruary.A practical project/investigation with an outcome produced during a supervised period of a 15 hours practical exam. GCSE grade 5 or above in Art or a Design Technology subject. - 5 GCSEs at grades 4 or above. This must include Mathematics at a grade 4 and English Language at grade 5 minimum.
The course is assessed at the end of Year 13. There is no AS-level qualification after the first year. Students must commit to two years of study. You are assessed through mentoring and joint target setting with your Art teachers. There is regular numerical marking based on the 4 assessment objectives, each objective carrying a maximum of 24 marks. 1.Contextual: Artist, culture, genre, inspiration. 2.Development: Testing, experimenting, designing. 3.Recording ideas and insights. 4.Outcomes. All work is internally marked and these marks are submitted to AQA by 31stMay in Year 13 and externally moderated by an AQA moderator who visits the school.
