Chemistry is about the materials around us. Within this two-year course, you will look at physical chemistry and how atoms combine to produce the different substances we use every day. You will investigate how and why reactions happen, how to speed them up, increase their yield, and look at their effects on the environment. Through practical sessions, you will learn to develop your skills in analytical, mathematical, and investigative skills. A keen interest and aptitude in working with numbers is key for this course.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 9/A* to 4/C including English Language, a minimum of 2 grade 6/B's in Chemistry and a second Science or Double science and a grade 6/B in Maths. You will also be required to complete a GCSE to A Level Transition Project prior to enrolment.
This is a two-year linear A Level where you are examined on the whole syllabus at the end of the second year. Each project is assessed as a portfolio of work. There are 3 exams at the end of the 2 years: papers 1 & 2 will focus on different parts of the syllabus while paper 3 will focus on the whole course including practical techniques & data analysis. To prepare for external exams, you will carry out a program of weekly tests, exam-style assessments, and Formal Progress Points where you will monitor your attendance, how hard you are working, and your academic progress. All Year 1 students will progress through a Year 1 Gateway that will allow them to progress to Year 2.
