This popular course is for you if you are hard-working, highly motivated, and want to develop your photographic, observational, and analytical skills and increase your knowledge of this contemporary subject. In addition to photography, darkroom work, and digital image manipulation, you will spend a considerable amount of time planning, analyzing, evaluating, and writing work up in your sketchbooks. You are encouraged to respond to set themes in a creative and individual manner.
You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9 - 4 including English and evidence of your photography abilities. If you have not studied an art GCSE, you may still apply and may be given a photographic assignment to test your suitability for the course. At the interview, you are required to bring a portfolio/sketchbook of artwork with you. You will also be required to complete a GCSE to A Level Transition Project prior to enrolment.
This is a two-year A Level where you are examined on the whole course at the end of the second year. Each project is assessed as a portfolio of work. This includes a personal investigation, practical work, and a personal study essay of 3000 words. To prepare for external exams, you will carry out a program of weekly tests, exam-style assessments, and Formal Progress Points where you will monitor your attendance, how hard you are working, and your academic progress. You will progress through a Year 1 Gateway that will allow you to progress to Year 2.
