The National Extended Certificate in Sport is a BTEC qualification designed to fit into an A-level programme. It is worth the equivalent UCAS points of one A level. The course studies 4 units over the two years: Unit 1: Anatomy & Physiology studies the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, and energy systems and how they respond and adapt to exercise. Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport, and Well-being explore client screening and lifestyle assessment, fitness training methods, and fitness programming to support improvements in a client’s health and well-being. Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry explores the knowledge and skills required for different career pathways in the sports industry. Learners will take part in, and reflect on, a personal skills audit, career action plan, and practical interview assessment activities. Unit 6: Sport Psychology evaluates how the fundamentals of psychology can enhance sporting performance, studying aspects such as personality, team cohesion and group dynamics.
This course is typically designed for school leavers to be part of an A Level study programme. The entry requirement for this course is five GCSEs including maths and English at grades 4-9.
