This course is aimed at those who already have experience within the makeup industry and would like to develop their skills as a Professional Make-up Artist for Film, Theatre, and TV. It has been specifically designed to develop practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques. You will be shown will how to apply and master specialist make-up techniques and work with artificial hair for a broad range of creative and dynamic industries. You will cover every aspect of advanced makeup techniques for film, television, and stage alongside other media purposes. This comprehensive course covers hair styling, media makeup, character makeup, prosthetics, and special effects. The course is for one year, approximately 3 days a week. Students in this course also get to develop their work-based skills; recognizing the importance of professional practice. At this advanced level, you will cover the following units: • Apply Makeup (if no prior qualification) • Provide Lash & Brow Treatments (if no prior qualification) • Apply airbrush makeup to the face • Fashion & Photographic Make-up • Media make-up • Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps • Design and apply face and body art • Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques • Creative hair design • Provide Tanning application (if make-up prior qualification) • Camouflage make-up (if make-up prior to qualification) • Working with colleagues • Monitor and maintain health and safety practices in the salon You will also be expected to take part in competition work, demonstrations from visiting guest speakers, and work experience. Our tutors are industry professionals and they will demonstrate the practical techniques as well as best practices so that you can be sure that you are equipped with the skills and know-how to perform these services independently.
You will need a Level 2 hair & media make-up qualification, or relevant prior qualification and a real interest in the make-up industry. You should be enthusiastic to learn a variety of advanced practical skills and the associated knowledge, which will develop your employment opportunities within the make-up industry. As with all media make-up professions, you will need to create the right impression with your clients and must therefore be professional, courteous, and discreet. Excellent communication skills are essential. This is an intensive, knowledge-based course and we do look for enthusiasm and motivation to succeed in the course.
You will be assessed whilst providing treatments in the salons/studio. You will be required to provide models for some of these assessments. Assignments, written papers, and online tests will also be used to test theoretical knowledge and understanding.
