Are you interested in discovering what makes an elite level sports person tick? From Sports Psychology to Sports Physiology and Biomechanics this course gives an incredibly varied look at how coaches and teachers can maximise elite performance and that of your own performance! As well as this, you will be led through Sports History in the UK and the structure of Sport in this country. You will need to have proven expertise in one sport of your choice, which is on the recognised list of sports from AQA (see specification). The course combines theory with practice. Where possible, your teachers will teach the theory through practical means as the context for a lot of the content is about how to improve sporting performance. The course is delivered by a variety of teachers and combines the various disciplines as listed in the is this course for me? section.
- It is desirable if students achieve a grade 5-6 or above in GCSE PE or your Sciences. Please note that you do not necessarily have to have completed GCSE PE to enrol on this course - All students must have gained a minimum of five grades 9-4 at GCSE to gain entry onto Level 3 courses, which should include English and Maths at GCSE.
There is regular testing of class based work and home learning. There is also extended writing practice as the exams require you to do this. The course is assessed via two, 2 hour papers accounting for 70%. The remaining 30% of the course is assessed via non exam assessment which involves a piece of self-analytical coursework and practical assessment in your one chosen sport.
