A level art and design students have the opportunity to develop and express their creativity and ideas. Students will explore the work of artists, designers and craftspeople to inform their work. They will develop ideas through experimentation, problem solving and evaluating work. The course enables students to use a broad range medias and techniques including textiles, fine art, print making and 3D design. Students will create a portfolio of work which can then access an art foundation course or art and design degree related courses. The Art qualification encourages an adventurous and enquiring approach towards art and design. Initial work is teacher directed but you are increasingly expected to determine your own avenues of investigation and experimentation, producing artwork which is both interesting and personally satisfying.
Entry requirements: A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade 5 and above, preferably including Art.
Examination arrangements and weightings: A2 Component 1: Art and Design Coursework = (60% A2). A2 Component 2: Externally Set Assignment = (40% A2) Preparation period followed by a 15 hour exam.
