Course summary

Literary Genres: Students study three texts: one Shakespeare play, a second drama text and one further text. One of the two nonShakespearian texts must be written pre-1900. Closed book exam. Texts and Genres: Students study three texts: one post-2000 prose text, one poetry text and one further text, one of which must be written pre 1900. Clean copies of texts required for the exam. Theory and Independence: Students write about two different literary texts. One text must be a poetry text and the other must be prose. Each text must be linked to a different section of the Critical Anthology. Students produce two essays of 1200 – 1500 words. One response must be a conventional essay; the second can be re-creative. Two conventional critical essays may be submitted.

Entry requirements

- Minimum of 6/7 grade at GCSE English Literature - Grade 5 in English and Maths PLUS at least 3 other GCSE grades 5 or above
