To provide a stimulating, practical course where students can learn to use manual and digital cameras, darkroom equipment and ICT (image manipulation) effectively to produce their own creative work. This qualification will provide students with a comprehensive portfolio of photographic work needed for art college entry. This two year course involves two components – a personal investigation and an externally set assignment. Candidates will need to produce practical and critical /contextual work in one or more areas including traditional darkroom technology, printing and developing films, digital technology, the use of camera equipment, lighting and exposure techniques.
The normal entry requirements for advanced courses apply including GCSE Art & Design at grade 4, although it is open to others with the necessary level of interest in creative / practical subjects such as media, product design, textiles and graphics. Knowledge and an interest of ICT and digital media are desirable. Candidates without these qualifications would be considered through a portfolio entry which must be submitted prior to starting the course.
All work is assessed by the centre and moderated by the Examination Board ● Component 1 - Personal Investigation: (60% of the total A level marks) ● Component 2 - Externally set assignment: (40% of the total A level marks)
