The Level 3 BTEC Sport combines with many advanced GCE subjects. It supports applications for a wide range of university courses like sports sciences, physiotherapy, recreational and leisure studies and there are many new and exciting courses related to sport throughout higher education. Some students choose to use their qualification to go straight into employment rather than go on to higher education. This can include further training in such areas as recreational management, leisure activities, the Armed Forces and the Civil Service. This course will develop your theoretical knowledge of a range of topics and all of the lessons are theory based. The course will prepare you for a written test paper on anatomy and physiology, a controlled assessment on fitness testing and training and written assignment in sport psychology and professional development in the sports industry.
Usual entry requirements: 5 GCSEs graded at 4 or above (counting 2 BTECs maximum). A grade 4 in English or Maths. The normal entry requirements apply for an advanced course, including a grade 4 or above at GCSE PE, or a merit+ grade at BTEC Sport level 2 is also required. If these criteria are not met, a formal interview will be conducted by the PE department to assess your ability to successfully complete the course.
All students will need to complete 4 different unit over the two year course. Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology, is a paper that is externally marked. Unit 2 Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being, is a controlled written assessment which is externally marked. Unit 3 Professional Development in the Sports Industry and unit 6 Sports Psychology, are internally assessed and will be moderated externally.
