Course summary

Applied Science is an ideal course if you are aiming for a broad range of science-related careers, such as laboratory work, forensic analysis, nursing, primary teaching or simply wish to study science to complement other A Level subjects. This course allows you to study how science is applied in many different types of professions and industries. The focus of the course is scientific usage, concentrating on how scientists and others use science in their work. You will gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to prepare for employment in the science sector, including essential employability skills, and the opportunity to apply them in context. This is a BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate which is the equivalent to one A level.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades 9 to 4. Minimum grade 5 in Science or Merit in BTEC Applied Science and 5 in Maths.

How you'll be assessed

Principles and Applications of Science 1 and 2 are assessed by external exam. Science Investigation Skills is a task set by Pearson, completed over 9 days in college and then assessd by Pearson. All other units are internally assessed.
