Course summary

A Level History is a two-year journey in which you will explore key issues and events in the past. You will investigate two key modules: The Tudors (1485-1603), and The American Dream (1945-1980). You will engage by the use of questioning, discussion, and active learning. Your writing ability will develop, as will your confidence in discussing and debating. The teaching team loves seeing the enthusiasm of students and their engagement in wider reading; we use a variety of teaching methods to help you achieve the best of your potential. History A Level is considered a facilitating subject; choosing it leaves you open to a wide range of options for university study. You can progress to study History at university and pursue a career within this field (as a researcher, curator, or within the heritage industry), whilst other History graduates regularly work in the civil service, politics, the media, and teaching.

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4(C) or above, including Maths and English. Grade 5 in History.

How you'll be assessed

You will be assessed in the form of two exams in both modules (worth 40% each), as well as your 4,000-word coursework essay (20%). The coursework will be based on an individual research project of your choosing, which will allow you to delve deeper into a historical debate. During the course, you will complete different pieces of work, including typed essays, timed questions, presentations, research tasks, and creative assessments including creating memes, and blogs, and utilizing Google Classroom.
