Recent advances through research in biological sciences have revolutionised the way we understand the world around us. Biology is the scientific exploration of the vast and diverse world of living organisms; this exploration has expanded enormously within the last four decades revealing a wealth of knowledge about ourselves and about the millions of other organisms with which we share our planet. Today, biological research, worldwide, spans an almost infinite spectrum of studies from molecules to landscapes.
In addition to the general requirements of entry to the Sixth Form, we would normally expect a grade 6 in Combined Science or a 6 in Biology to provide evidence of the scientific ability required to cope with the study of A Level Science.
Students will be assessed both during and at the end of the course via internal and external module tests. Internal assessment of practical work takes place and contributes to an assessment in ‘Practical Competence’.
