Course summary

Chemistry A Level is the study of materials and their properties. It covers all aspects of the subject, focusing on the three main areas of physical, organic and inorganic chemistry. The course is designed to stimulate and sustain interest in Chemistry by presenting it in a variety of situations, many of them involving practical work. You will be studying electronic structure, calculations in chemistry, equilibria, energetics, redox, transition metals, kinetics and organic chemistry.

Entry requirements

- You need at least a GCSE grade 6 in chemistry, or a 6-6 in combined science and grade 6 in GCSE maths - All students must have gained a minimum of five grades 9-4 at GCSE to gain entry onto Level 3 courses, which should include English and Maths at GCSE.

How you'll be assessed

You will be assessed by regular homework tasks, end-of-topic tests, mock examinations, practical competence activities and your final examinations. The final exams consist of three papers.
