Our amazing world is explored throughout this course; from human populations to the impact of global warming; from destructive natural hazards to man-made future challenges. Geography examines the environment around us, how it affects us and most importantly, how we can live on our planet in a sustainable way. The course requires students to undertake a minimum of five days compulsory field work which may be conducted as single day visits or residential trips. You should not choose this subject if you are not prepared to fulfil this mandatory requirement. The cost of field trips are met by The Sixth Form.
Students studying three A Levels will be expected to have a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 6 and three GCSEs at grade 5/4, including English Language and Mathematics at grade 5/4 or above. Or eight GCSEs at a minimum of grade 5.
The assessments will comprise of three final examinations: • Paper 1 (Physical) covers Hazards, Coasts and Water/Energy. • Paper 2 (Human) covers Globalisation, Superpowers, Regeneration and Migration. • Paper 3 is a synoptic assessment with a variety of styles of questions, ranging from short data-linked analysis questions to extended evaluative essays.
