Course summary

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in IT gives learners the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in IT. Learners study the relationship between hardware and software, managing and communicating information and data, and the principles of designing and developing digital technologies and processes to support organisations. The mandatory units that this qualification includes are: Unit 1: Information Technology Systems Unit 2: Creating Systems to Manage Information Unit 3: Using Social Media in Business Unit 4: Programming (Using python) Unit 9: IT project Management Unit 11: Cyber Security and Incident Management This qualification also includes a choice of optional units, covering areas such as data modelling, website development, mobile app development and computer games design.

Entry requirements

You must have obtained a grade 4 in GCSE English Language or English Literature and Maths, plus three further higher grade passes (this includes grade 4 or above in GCSE subjects or Level 2 Pass or above in BTEC subjects).

How you'll be assessed

The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in IT consists of 8 units of which 6 are mandatory (listed above). 3 units are externally marked (46%) and the remaining units are completed through internal assessment. All units must be passed to achieve the qualification.
