As well as improving language and fluency after GCSE, students also study German history and culture at A-level in the context of the main topics on the AQA course which are: • Family and relationships • Technology • Youth culture and music • Art and architecture • Berlin • Immigration • Politics Alongside lessons which take you through the compulsory topics and grammar, you will also attend one-to-one conversation classes with our German language assistant. In the second year of A-level, you can choose your research topic which will form the basis for your speaking exam at the end of the course. Literature and Film We study the play ‘Der Besuch der Alten Dame’ and the Oscar-winning German film ‘Das Leben der Anderen’, both of which are very popular with A-level students because of their moving and intriguing stories which resonate with modern life. Visiting Germany and German-speaking countries You will be encouraged to take every opportunity to do this.
