Course summary

Over your two years, you will explore: how people and politics interact; the emergence and development of the UK’s democratic system and the role and scope of political parties how the UK government works; recognise where, how and by whom political decisions are made (e.g. Parliament, the Prime Minister, the judiciary)  key political ideas of conservatism, liberalism, socialism and one of feminism or nationalism; you will understand how these ideas and principles apply in practice to human nature, the state, society and the economy. the international dimension of global politics. We live in a complex world with significant challenges, including global terrorism, poverty, weapons proliferation, environmental degradation and pandemics. What it can lead to Politicians use their broad range of skills to stand up for what they believe in, and what’s right. Using their intelligence and communication skills, along with their powers of persuasion, politicians fight for the chance to change society for the better. Whether you want to become a politician like an MP, or you are simply fascinated by the subject, an A Level in Politics will equip you with a range of transferable skills that will serve you well in many careers, including law, finance, journalism, charities and the civil service.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in either English. GCSE Geography or History is desirable
