Course summary

Across the 2 years of the A-Level course you will cover a range of texts from Greek Theatre to the present day. You will study 5 plays in detail from the perspectives of both actor and director. These plays will provide the basis for both written and practical work. The practical work will be 3 extracts from student selected texts and also a devised performance in Year 2. In Year 1 you will work in groups to explore the plays practically and academically. You will perform extracts from set texts, keep an assessable notebook and study 2 plays. You will be expected to write essays on these plays. In Year 2 you will continue to work on your set texts for the final examination and for practical assessment. You will also develop, in conjunction with your teacher and other students, a devised performance that is internally assessed. Grade 6 in Drama, if studied Grade 6 in English Literature

How you'll be assessed

Open book examination on two set plays. One question on a live theatre performance. A devised theatre performance influenced by a set practitioner. A working notebook of the process. Practical explorations of three extracts, one of which is assessed practically. A reflective report analysing and evaluating the extracts.
