
BTEC Nationals are Level 3 qualifications designed to provide highly specialist work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. The qualification is a two year course consisting of various units. These give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment. The qualification will provide career development opportunities for learners already in work, and allow those wishing to progress into higher education such as a university degree course or professional development programme. This course is equivalent to three A Levels. What will I learn? The course consists of 15 different study units, with 11 of these being mandatory and 4 being optional. These are selected from a substantial list. Programme leaders and course tutors will decide upon the units best suited to the group of learners on the course, subject to the requirements of the qualification. There is a written exam for one unit. Some units are externally marked. Possible units include: • Anatomy and Physiology (written exam) • Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being • Professional Development in the Sports Industry • Skill acquisition • Business for sport • Sports Leadership • Exercise and circuit-based physical activity • Application of fitness training • Self-employment in the sports industry • Research methods in sport • Sports injury management • Practical sports performance • Technical and tactical demands of sport • Sports Psychology Sport • Application of fitness testing • Coaching for performance
