
To develop an understanding of mind and behaviour by comparing and critically assessing the theories and investigations of Psychologists. The course will cover the main approaches in psychology: Biological, Behavioural, Psychodynamic, Cognitive & Positive through the study of both theory and application in the form of therapy. The main areas of psychology: Social, Biological, Cognitive, Behavioural and Positive will be illustrated and will lead to an understanding of research methods. In Year 2, controversial issues, topics of interest and applications of psychology will be studied, for example Crime, Abnormal and Stress, together with Research Methods.
Grade 5 or above in GCSE Mathematics. Grade 5s in GCSE English Literature & GCSE English language. Grade 6 or above in 1 X GCSE Science’s (if doing Triple Science). Grade 6 or above in GCSE Combined Science (if Triple Science not taken).
Component 1: Psychology: Past to present Biological Psychology including Drug Therapy, Behavioural Psychology including Aversion Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychology including Dream Analysis, Cognitive Psychology including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Positive Psychology including Mindfulness Component 2: Psychology: Exploring Behaviour Investigating behaviour in the form of a variety of Research Methods, including personal investigations and application to real life. Component 2: Psychology: Exploring Behaviour Year 2 Research Methods, including personal investigations and application to real life Component 3: Psychology: Implications in the Real World Forensic Psychology, Abnormal psychology and Stress. Controversies in psychology including Ethics and Culture
